When someone says you can start a trading website in 20 minutes you automatically think. Utter rubbish. But that is the claim of Etsy who have introduced a new selling platform called ‘Pattern.’ I read the big cheese at Etsy sat in front of the press when it was rolled out and set up a website in front of them. But he would know wouldn’t he ?
In effect it ports all your info and items onto a new platform that you can design and market as your own website. In a cynical frame of mind we sat down very early whils’t our minds were fresh and yes indeed in half an hour it was set up.
Of course, it does not have the flexibility of Shopify etc and basically if Etsy close your Etsy shop down your website goes too. Your options for design etc are limited. So really it is a hybrid website. But at £15 a month I realise from past experience it is small change and the challenge for me is to make it work and work out how to market it so in the future I may take a view to take on a grown up website again in I can defeat the difficulties of marketing. Mind you if it works as an Etsy affiliated website it’ll remain an Etsy affiliated website.
Remembering the misery and the sheer aggro and cost of my last website it was twenty minutes well spent.
