Teaching Myself Social Media for a Dummy Part 2
1/11/22, beginning of week 3.
This is how far I must go. I posted a blog yesterday, it has been read as someone has liked it, I can find it in site but if you look at my blog as a reader it is not there. I haven’t got a clue.
Two weeks in though and there have been developments. I tried sourcing some tuition locally but it is the same problem I encountered when looking for SEO for an old website, nobody can give you a straight answer and their pricing is based in what they think they can get out of you. No thanks.
So, I have resolved to completely teach myself. Honestly, this is the best way for me as I have no attention span but high levels of curiosity and can generally work things better if I work it out for myself.
You tube Word Press for Beginners was my first call. I watched a few videos and realised I am quite proficient on many of the basics. I stuck most of them for 15 minutes but actually picked up useful info on improvements.
The most basic point was that I need to sign up for the business plan at £240 a year so I can use plug ins. I’m not doing that with my current blog as it is really niche and very much a hobby thing.
I will set up a proper blog. It will encapsulate my interests, current affairs, sport, music and media, a bit of UK travel.
Two weeks in and I have actually finally found a really good video on setting this up which I think I will go with but will keep researching.
Some good things though, I hit over 500 reads for October on my blog, mainly through my Twitter feed. I played around with Instagram and a great leap forward. The posts I have done to date have been on vintage items and the reception poor, lucky to get one like a post. Yes, I know it takes time. But over the weekend I posted some photos about another interest, punk rock, the likes averaged 8. Nice to get the reception but better still it taught me that vintage stuff is not niche enough and does not have the interest.
Quite nice also to have a few interactions from wordpress and on Instagram. Oh and some twit on twitter who I blocked. I’ll always interact but if people are rude and aggressive I will not.
Not great leaps forward but after two weeks I am pleased with progress and although merely scratching the surface have learnt a lot and am really enjoying it
