Building A Blog. A Cack Handed Amateur DIY Project!

Yup, not an ironic visual joke, why the hell are there two photos when there is only one on the edit?

By way of an introduction, I am Chris and I am hoping this is going to be the first lines of a tremendous success story as I traverse the blogging landscape from an independent very occasional blogger to an all rounded professional blogger. When I get my new blog organised I will be giving over a category to the trials, tribulations and the failures of attempting to build a half decent blog, for ease of access. So please be patient as this may take some time!

Maybe one day it will act as a diary for my success or I rather suspect will be a catalogue of mishaps. I’ve fallen flat on my face before and in all honesty you pick yourself up and get on with it, after all life is full of disappointments, what’s another one?

I currently have a small football blog called The Rights of Fans which is basically a football fanzine for Lewes Football Club in the UK. It was set up seven or eight years ago I’ll have periods where I write a few pieces.

My blog.

Writing on such a niche subject is totally limiting, so I will be expanding my repertoire into my  other interests. I’ve been a vintage dealer for 40 years, so much of that, current affairs, other sport, art and entertainment, culture and lots of eclectic random stuff.

I’ve reached the ripe old age of 57 now and and in a nice position where I can semi retire. I’m somebody who is generally hyperactive and I see blogging and writing as a way to fill some of the time and go on a journey of creativity and discovery and I guess some self discovery.

The blog evolved from a football fanzine and much of my writing reflects that, pretty matter of fact, caustic, satirical, occasionally witty and always original and from the heart.

I don’t concentrate on things very well and the very nature of blogs, where some can take as little as 20 minutes to write, just to write a little story about something that may be of interest to people works really well for me, it is the perfect medium for my brain.

Of course, we all know now it was all about the spectrum, why people my age failed in school,  in  my case it was evident during my education that I’ve never ever been able to get to grips with grammar, presumably some mild form of dyslexia, but nobody picked up on it and I only managed to improve when I went to a really good sixth form college. I think with the blog no one’s really that bothered. It is about making an interesting point and being entertaining at the same time and I think poor punctuation is not too much of a concern to most readers.

So perhaps every week I will be just give me an update on how well or how badly it’s going, how my attempts to build it are going, how I source my material, the (potential) growth of the blog etc.

Here is an analogy. I am 21 and I want to play Premiership football. But at the moment I am unfit and playing park football. I’m in the game but at the lowest level. But I want to learn to play better. With blogging I am going to do it DIY. I am going to teach myself to be a fantastic blogger. I run an online business, am okay at social media and have an amateur blog so I’m in the game, not at the lowest level but not great, but full of energy and positive optimism. How long will that last?
